How To Tone Flabby Arms - 3 Common Myths Busted
Many women believe that the only way to tone flabby arms or any other part of their bodies is to work out for hours in the gym every week. For most women who have extremely busy liives, this is next to impossible and totally unnecessary. Who wouldn't want to have beautifully toned arms and bodies, but not if it takes away time from our families.
You do not need to work out for hours in order to achieve your dream body. Below we will bust apart the most commonly held myths about muscle building and toning.
Mistake No. 1 - Longer workout sessions are more beneficial
Even working out for one hour or more can start to have a negative effect on the body. This is because the body starts releasing hormones that decrease muscle tone, increase fat storage and increase stress on the body. Not only can this lead to exhaustion, anxiety and lethargy, it can make you even gain weight.
The answer is to keep your workouts short and sweet. An intensive workout for 20 minutes is just as effective. Keep your intensity high for the whole 20 minutes and try and get a sweat going within the first 5 minutes. Even if you are extremely busy, you should be able to find 20 minutes to workout.
Myth No. 2 - Lifting weights will make you look big and bulky
Even when women work out with heavy weights, they still have lean and toned bodies. They aren't big and bulky and look like a professional bodybuilder! It is absolute nonsense that lifting weights will make you look big and bulky. If that were so, you'd better stop carrying heavy shopping bags or lifting your child.
It would be a mistake to not use any weights as this will stop you from building muscle, raising metabolism and burning calories efficiently. The solution is to use weights that are as heavy as you can lift for 6-12 reps. It is only through using heavy weights that you can start to develop lean, defined and sculpted arms.
Myth Number. 3 – low or medium intensity workouts are better
When you work out with heavy weights at high intensity, you force your body to increase the amount of calories it burns during your workout, which last for the rest of the day. Imagine how great it could be burning calories even whilst sitting in front of the TV or computer. This is called the "after-burn effect". This certainly doesn't happen with low or medium intensity workouts.
It only takes a 20 minute high intensity workout for you to get the after-burn, so make every minute count. Do 6-12 repetitions using as heavy weights as you can safely lift. After the repetitions do a couple of minutes of skipping and then have a 30 second rest period before carrying on.
