3 Tips Everyone Who Exercises Should Use
It is really difficult for most of us when we try to get fit, and even more so if we don’t usually do any kind of exercise. The first few weeks that you start to exercise then it is going to be really hard for you, however I do have some good news as if you can get past that then it does get a lot easier. If you have the motivation though then getting fit can be one of the best things you can do. Not only will your energy levels improve and your stamina, but your bones will get stronger, your heart will too, and you will tone your muscles.
Here are some tips to help you get into exercising again:
Don’t be afraid of gentle exercise: To exercise doesn’t mean to run 20 miles or spend an hour on a treadmill down the gym until you can barely breathe afterwards, if you exercise like that then you are just going to injure yourself and stop. Something that should help to motivate you is the fact that pretty much anything can be classed as exercise, it doesn’t need to be hard to do in order to earn that label, even taking your dog for a walk is exercise, or taking a stroll down to the shops. You might not think you would get any benefit from them, but all those little things you can do will really start to add up and force your body to improve itself slowly.
Actually walking is probably one of the most effective types of exercise you can do as it is so easy. You don’t need any special clothing or footwear, and you can do it nearly anywhere. You might actually be surprised by how much you walk in a normal day, buy an Omron HJ-112 pedometer and keep track of your average day to see how many steps you usually take.
Know when you are improving: It is vital that you take some sort of measurements so you can see your progress as your body starts to adapt. That means to improve more you need to push yourself harder so your body knows it needs to keep improving and strengthening itself. The best way I have found to keep pushing myself during every workout is to time myself as I run. If you have a normal route you take like a route around your local neighborhood then time how long it takes you to do it, then shave a few seconds off each time you do it. It might sound stupid to improve only very slightly each time, but if you try to push yourself hard each time and beat your best time by 20 seconds or your distance by half a mile then you just won’t be able to keep that pace up.
Never give up: You are going to hit road blocks along the way, but it is critical that you don’t ever give up. There will be times when you can’t manage to keep going, either you lose motivation as something bad happens in your life, or you get ill etc. Put those instances behind you, they are temporary blips in your routine that everyone experiences, get back out there exercising again as soon as you can and don’t use a temporary setback as an excuse to stop completely!
